BÉRURIER NOIR : As long as there is dark∼black, there is hope !

• Between february 1983 & november 1989 BÉRURIER NOIR tried to dream > practice > quite simply… live an alternative counter∼culture and its dissemination to the “crowd”, from confrontation (debut performances, «théâtre de force») to osmosis («mouv’ment d’la jeunesse») with the abolition of the “band/crowd” barrier in a free & self∼organised space. This (r)evolution was accompanied by slogans, declaimed manifestos, a strong & chaotic visual identity, of an ever∼growing motley raya, and of course a unison sound ; From the cold, raw & minimal rage of the beginnings to the carnivalesque awkward circus of the ends ! → Bérurier Noir were, is, and will stay the exception by the exemple ← Everthing becomes terribly possible, fantastically enthusiastic, crazy parties, combative pessimism & collective nerve !

• “Be realist, ask the impossible”. Embrace, confront, act ! Let us stare at & derange our contradictions, our passions, our convictions, our impulses, our disappointments… No surrender. Tirelessly. Always with a smile, slime !

GEE VAUCHER (born in 1945 in england) is one of the people who defined the protest art of the punk movement from the 1970s & 1980s. She made all the vinyl covers for the anarchist band CRASS, among others… She also made her debut with the collectives EXIT as well as the Dial House in Essex→ like so many other epicentres of her original radical creativity…

• GEE VAUCHER participated in few exhibitions here & there and published few graphic & written printed editions → mainly through her autonomous structure Exitstencil Press (in the company of his comrade in struggle Penny Rimbaud).
More recently her work was recognized the day after Donald Trump’s election victory in 2016, when the front page of the Daily Mirror published her 1989 painting “Oh America” { Also for the cover of the debut TACKHEAD’s album & now for the first part of my serie DONT WORRY BE aNGRry }…

• The unique position G Sus occupies (linking avant∼garde arghtistic movements > counterculture > punk movement > even contemporary street art), while rejecting all “isms”, offers a unique echo on the history of feminist, pacifist & anarchist art…

SOPA BOBA is an adventurous & audacious belgian∼dutch encounter between the director Jean Vangeebergen (zü Klub), the composer Pavel Tchikov (Ogives) and the singer G.W.Sok (The Ex, Oiseaux∼Tempête). This new creation with its soft & abrupt musicality forms a kind of oratorio from the present time which, in an assumed socio∼political context, develops a dramatic, neuralgic fable. The compositions are carried by rough modular synths, spoken word & a neoclassical string quartet…

• The first album of this concept is based on the eponymous text of the moldovan author Nicoleta Esinencu, its musical & narrative adaptation surprises first of all with its industrial sounds with synthetic scents ! So the stringed instruments come into action and then comes the narration which completes an astonishing, surprising, bewitching sound picture…

>>> The play (written in 2013) is based on a real event that took place in present∼day Moldova : a father cut off his child’s finger because the child stole money from his wallet. That moment is about money, career, politics and lies. Embracing scathing irony and sharp words, That Moment offers a scathing critique of consumer society & widespread corruption, insinuating itself into the family unit as well as the political sphere, going so far as to contaminate an entire country → Which country ? From East to West the news offers us the spoilt for choice <<<

• Through an atypical first work mixing the art of music and the art of theater through a powerful & moving psalmody SOPA BOBA builds around the texts an astonishing maelstrom of a post∼industrial avant∼garde → Here is a unique sonic experience which you will have to apprehend like a real discovery !

Dead Bob

DEAD BOB is the solo incarnation of John Wright, drummer of long time and apparently legendary, but now retired, punk rock band NoMeansNo. «Life Like», a NMN cover actually, is the title track of the first album John has released on his own. Recorded & produced by himself in the wilds of British Columbia, this album’s material spans several decades and there is lots more in the archives. Though primarily written and performed by John he can’t take all the credit having engaged the help of several friends to get this thing done : Byron Slack (Invasives), Kristy Lee Audette (Rong), Ford Pier (DOA, etc.), Selina Martin, his son Aidan Wright, as well as two old collabs with brother Rob in the writer’s chair…

• As might be expected the songs roll out cohesively but defy the cookie cutter pigeon holes, hence «Genre» is a tough one to convey but one thing that is not unclear is it is not to be listened to quietly >>> Play loud & enjoy → Then come see DEAD BOB all Live Like ! John has teamed with Ford, Byron, Kristy and good friend Colin MacRae (Pigment Vehicle) on electric bass guitar.
