Mike Watt *

Mike Watt

Michael David «MIKE» WATT —born December 20, 1957— is an american bassist, singer & composer, from San Pedro (california). He is mainly recognized as a co∼founder of pioneer formations MINUTEMEN, DOS and fIREHOSE ; as well as by becoming in 2003 the official bassist of the original reboot of IGGY AND THE STOOGES…

• THE MISSINGMEN
regroup the guitarist∼singer Tom Watson → Slovenly, The Pair Of Pliers, The Jom And Terry Show, Red Krayola + the drummer Raul Morales ← FYP, Killer Dreamer, The Leeches. The name of the trio is a humorous reference linked to the fact that during a european tour in 2005 for the album of MIKE WATT «The Secondman’s Middle Stand», none musician from The Secondmen → Pete Mazich < > Jerry Trebotic  could participate… The Missingmen made their first stage performances fall 2006, openning for M.WARD. Mike Watt intended to record an album with The Missingmen since 2007, but no formal plan was announced before 2009, when both acolytes finished the guitar & drums tracks for «Hyphenated-man» in New York. By rereading various interviews with MIKE WATT, this album would feature a multitude of short songs inspired by paintings by Hieronymous Bosch. The album, initially produced on a japanese label in October 2010, were also the debut reference from self∼run label by Mike himself : CLENCHEDWRENCH.

• This hyperactive arghtivist never stop recording & touring with so many other musicians around the world, that i won’t risk listing them all… More fresh news in…2027 ?

MENTAL DISTURBANCE *

Mental Disturbance

MENTAL DISTURBANCE was a bunch of buddies from Brussels (belgium) who played together between 1987 & 1990. After a debut demo∼tape { «Hard Of Hearing» } in ’87 with Alain ← mic + Beastie ← bass + Michel ← guitar + Rudy ← drums ; MENTAL DISTURBANCE put out a second K7 { «The Sound Of Confetti Falling On The Ground» } in 1989 with a fifth member, Marc ← guitar. Finally, the band got out a 7” vinyl { «All Or Nothing» } early ’90, via the french∼latino label & distro AlternativNoise, with last but not least line∼up change : Beastie ← mic + Marc ← bass + Michel ← guitar + Rudy ← drums.

• Mental Disturbance stopped dead when Marc announced his departure to continue his sonic journey with the N.Y. band Mucky Pup… Another flash story for another «thrash» band…

MELT-BANANA *

Melt-Banana

The crazy story of MELT-BANANA begins in 1991, when the singer Onuki Yasuko, still student at «Tokyo University of Foreign Studies», decide to launch with few friends a band called MIZU, featuring especially the guitarist Agata Ichirou. Other members will participate in the project in an ephemeral way but in 1992 the bassist Rika joins the line∼up and the group gives its first concerts in Tokyo (japan) ; in novembre of this same year, Sudoh Toshiaki settles down the drums…

• They really begin seriously in 1993, opting for the final name Melt-Banana, in allusion to famous «pop banana» from Andy Warhol. However, the band will subsequently experience many drummer changes, even limiting himself for a time as a trio, then currently in duo. They are quickly spotted by KK Null —leader of japan cult band Zeni Geva— who very early sends a tape to Mark Fischer, owner of american label SKIN GRAFT, to make them known. He will be a great support of the group by producing and offering the services of his label NUX ORGANIZATION editing their debut release ; he also puts them in contact with the famous independent producer Steve Albini. During summer 1994, the band goes to Chicago to record with him their first album «Speak Squeak Creak». Same year, M-B participate to the compilation «Mi Caballito Chulo…! Como Lo Quie Ro…» from japanese label MOM’N’DAD ; Albini & Fischer sing at the beginning of the song. Still in ’94, MELT-BANANA performs its very∼first important tour in japan, alongside of Jim O’Rourke —whom produced «Scratch or Stitch»—, Zeni Geva and Space Streakings. Same period, britsih label CHOCOLATE MONK put out on cassette their second album «Cactuses Come in Flocks». SKIN GRAFT promoted widely around the combo and released the following year a 12” «It’s In The Pillcase». During summer 1995, they tour for a month in north america with U.S.Maple. In this occasion, they record a new album, out on SKIN GRAFT and still engineered by Albini. Around the same time, they met other important members of the «avant∼garde» american music scene, in particular John Zorn and Mike Patton. M-B were part of last tour of Mr. Bungle. Patton will sing in 1998 on their album «Charlie», and Zorn will record, produce & release through his label TZADIK their album «MxBx 1998/13,000 Miles At Light Velocity», on the occasion of a new USA tour. In 1997 they fund their own label A∼ZAP ← lately IGUANA COAX, on which they have released most of their works ; Sudoh quit definitely M-B six months later. In 2004, they openned∼guest for the tour of Wire in japan & for Fantômas in north america. They have since performed numerous concerts around the world following the release of the album «Bambi’s Dilemma» in 2007 : at the united states of america with Tool —they have known through Buzz Osborne—, Dead Child, The Locust, then in 2008 openning for Shellac, the power trio of Steve Albini. In 2007 they record «Hair-Cat (Cause the Wolf Is a Cat !)», a theme from «Perfect Hair Forever» program broadcast on AdultSwim from Cartoon Network. Their last album «Fetch» got out in 2013…

• Since then, they continue in an original & radical line∼up → power  duo : Agata + Yasuko ← Arigato  !

L’Eau Rouge *

L’Eau Rouge

Messy chaos of illusory mechanism. Relentlessness on a charred battery. Some summary burns, a 12 volt smoke and then… A debacle «spectacle» already consumed. As if there is no spare wheel, no steering, but fortunately everything starts to catch fire. Living water burner, smell of sulfur, crimson beat, alloy of pyrotechnic sounds and emergency connections. Just a little electronic liquid to just keep it going in the promise that everything will end with a burst of fireworks…

• L’EAU ROUGE
is a crammed & inflamed trip outdoors in the company of fresh french duo of circus arghtists : Antoine Redon → performer & juggler of flames, manipulator of objects & fireworks + Jean-Baptiste Véry → electr(on)ic «live» musician.

• Fire at will !

KING BISCUIT *

King Biscuit

Infamous carnivorous fantastic 4 < > Rouen bites you ! KING BISCUIT was formed in early 1992 as a trio with the intention of playing acoustically in the streets. June of the same year, first concerts. It failed : immediate electric skidding. There were then a permanent one∼upmanship, each trying to cover the other 2 —at the sound level, to be heard—, with the result : an increasingly pronounced hardening of the music of the countryside orchestra. Early 1994, a trumpet came in the dish of the french biscuit kings. The decibel∼snag madness goes beyond the limits. The «P∼core» found a new lease of life, phew ! Hundreds of shows, 3 demo cassettes, many compilations participations, a 7” split { w/ Cornice, you can listen on the player above } & a 10” split { w/ Copywrong } will follow one another until the dissolution of the four liquid lovers, slurp !

• KING BISCUIT was : Mimile ← trumpet, voice, danse, any kind of works + Pakal ← bass, guitar, voice, and everything that comes up —later, he played guitar with Stanley Kubi… + Pédro ← drums, harmonica, voice, possibly something else + Rawl ← guitar, banjo, bass, drums, voice, open to any propositions —besides, he also played banjo with Gopher Wyborowa— … What adventures…

Kiki Picasso *

Kiki Picasso

Christian Chapiron { aka KIKI PICASSO } is a french designer, graphic cartooner, painter, illustrator, circus clamor & videographer. At the end of the 70’s, he was an active member of the Bazooka graphic commando, internationally recognized for its subversive ideological and drastic arghtistic positions which radically renewed the graphic «arts» and press cartoon. When they met at the Beaux∼Arts in Paris in 1974, its very young founders preferred comix to school and aspired to mark an arghtistic break in a punk aesthetic mixing violence, pornography and biting irony. «We are getting ready to start a career as artists but we especially want to not be in galleries, and we think that the ideal medium for graphic and artistic creation is the media. Galleries, museums and all institutions are sinister, unproductive, not funny places» said young Christian Chapiron. Their interventions in the french daily newspaper Liberation, in particular, will cause many scandals…

• In solo, KIKI PICASSO has produced numerous TV shows credits, record covers and book covers, while responding to orders from arghtivist, militant, political and/or left∼libertarian circles of all kinds. Outside of arts institutions his arghtivity as a painter has never ceased, even though his first retrospective «Les chefs d’œuvre de Kiki Picasso», only took place in 2019…

Insólito UniVerso *

Insólito UniVerso

The musical exploration of Insólito UniVerso draws on various sources such as «psychedelic» folk, «progressive» jazz and very particularly in traditional venezuelan songs & dances to create a soundscape that is at once bewitching, dancing, dreamlike, ecstatic… A voice and its song, curious, capricious, eager for nooks and crannies, unusual detours, goes into a musical body of latino  american roots. Let’s go in & out of the lyrical, the traditional, the psyche, with these songs that are experienced at the limits of poetry…

• Broadcast since the 60’s in popular venezuelan radios, «Nuestro Insólito Universo» was a radio show that mixes legends & paranormal stories with various facts under a disturbing background sound…

• Insólito UniVerso is : Edgar Bonilla → keyboards + Maria Fernanda → voice & cuatro + Raúl Monsalve → bass + various percussive inventive guests…

GUESS WHAT *

Guess What

Luke Warmcop { drums, percussions, trumpet… } & Graham Mushnik { various & multiples keyboards… } formed GUESS WHAT in 1968 (2005). They started by rehearsing endlessly, locked in their garage mainly, producing obscure & metaphysical music in the form of (very) original soundtracks… Since 1971 (2008), the duo have been relentlessly testing the stage, developing a set of instrumental pieces dedicated to russian cosmonot Yuri Gagarin who gave the concept album «Yuri Gagarin—12 Modern Odes to History’s Greatest Spaceman» → edited on their own label, CATAPULTE. In 1973 (2010), the 2 acolytes discovered the sinuous and pernicious lairs of the «Giallo» cinema and follow up the recording of some imaginative and inventive italian works → The LP recording «Mondo Giallo» was out on IMAGENES Records ← Since then, out of print, 5 of its hits have been reissued via our concept compilation boxset «Dont Worry Be Angrry» {That you can listen on the player above} in 1980 (2017). In the meantime, a new focus monopolized them to finally achieve in 1978 (2015) a third and surprising LP «Al-Khawarizmi», named in hommage of the persian mathematician & astronomer, around the music of the middle∼east…

• GUESS WHAT also collaborated with Compagnie Titanos for the (re)creation of the musical ambiance of mystico∼steelmaking circus show «Ouroboros» in the streets in 1981 (2018)…

• And welcome to the fourth —sonic— dimension «Music for the Education of Children in Space» all∼just edited, delivered, flown in 1984 (2021)  → Then just now came out a trouble∼double vinyl { as a selection∼compilation featuring the 3 firsts albums so called «Chrestomathy» under the label without label ! a N G R r ! } ← (Im)patient & (ir)relevant new discovery… in 1990 (2027) !
